Dear Readers,

In 2016, Homebound Publications will celebrate its 5th anniversary. I speak for the entire staff when I say it is both exciting and surreal to realize that 5 years have passed since we published our very first title. It’s gratifying to see so many of our readers support our authors and indeed the press itself. Countless readers have given their time, energy, and financial support to help widen the reach of our titles. The tireless efforts of our staff, many of whom work over 100 hours a week, have taken Homebound Publications from a small start-up to a burgeoning voice in independent publishing. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that Homebound Publications began as nothing more than an idea my twenty-year-old self scribbled down in a notebook. Looking ahead to the coming years, I try to visualize where we might be, and the possibilities exceed anything my younger self could have hoped for.

Logo UpdateIn the biggest expansion in our press’ history, we’ve recently combined forces with our “sibling” Hiraeth Press. Hiraeth will now be an official imprint of Homebound Publications. Hiraeth Press will be celebrating it’s 10th anniversary in 2016, having published environmental-focused poetry and nonfiction since 2006. In this new era, Hiraeth Press will primarily publish nonfiction books exploring themes of conservation, rewilding, place-based narratives, natural history, and contemplative ecology. Hiraeth accepts submissions that range from meditations on nature to well-researched yet accessible nonfiction titles. Broadly, Hiraeth Press is interested in books that bring together science and poetry, bridging the gap between knowing the earth and knowing the self.

hbp AUDIO LOGO 2015Following the success of our audiobooks, we’ve established Homebound Publications Audio Editions. Through this division, we will continue to offer select titles from our library in audiobook via platforms such as iTunes, Audible, and Amazon. This decision comes in the wake of receiving several messages from our vision-impaired readers telling us how grateful they are that we take the time to release our titles in such formats.

Owl Wings Logo_2In addition, we’ve also founded a new imprint: Owl House Books. This imprint is devoted to literature that can be enjoyed by all ages. Myth has haunted and shaped us since the dawn of language, giving wing and fleshy form to the archetypes of our imagination. As our past was spent around the fire listening to myths and the sounds of the night, so were our childhoods spent getting lost in the tangled branches of fables. Through our titles at Owl House Books, we hope to return to these storytelling roots.

Finally, in an effort to create a well-rounded vision, we’ve established an Advisory Board to help guide the growth of Homebound Publications and its divisions. As we bring together this creative circle of writers, artists, students, and activists and welcome them into our house, I feel as though we are ready for the next leap in growth. Meet our circle:
